Baptism

This is also sometimes known by the name ‘christening’.  It marks the time when a person (young or old) publicly becomes a member of the church. If you wish to be baptised, or if you have a young child for baptism,  and you wish to know more about arranging this, then please come along to one of our Sunday or Thursday services (see Regular Services) and speak to one of the clergy. Alternatively, please ring Fr Rex Matthias on 07393639813, or Marion Hughes on 07841 160430.

Once contact has been made, our Baptism co-ordinator Marion Hughes will be available to assist and reassure you; and if you wish, to arrange at your convenience a visit to the church during the daytime or evening when it could be an opportunity to see how the service will be conducted and also an opportunity to ask any questions. It will be a time to plan for a Baptism service where we will try to accommodate your wishes for a very special celebration.

In addition to the telephone contact numbers above, you may also of course just fill in the Contact Form on this web site and we will be in touch very soon.

This Late XIII / Early XIV Century medieval stoup remains in use as a font for Baptisms.

It is always a privilege to welcome all for Baptism and to be welcomed in to the family of the Church.

For the parent or Guardian, we offer to you this prayer for your child:

God our creator, we thank you for the gift of this child / these children entrusted to our care. May we be patient and understanding, ready to guide and to forgive, so that through our love this child / these children may come to know your love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The first Baptism ceremony following the reordering of the church was recently held on the 09th May 2021, when the church welcomed baby Albie Thomas into God’s family.

The intimate atmosphere of the ceremony proved a thoroughly joyous occasion for all, despite the limited number allowed to attend due to the current pandemic restriction.

Albie, we welcome you; may God’s joy, love and peace fill you through all tomorrows.
